HSLC has been busy with the early conversions to the Evergreen System.
Lawrence County is already online, and Susquehanna County is in the process of converting and is scheduled to go live at the end of the
month. Millennium libraries scheduled to migrate during the spring are(in order) Green Free, North Wales Area, Wyomissing, Cambria County,
Apollo Memorial, Kittanning Public, Juniata County, Bloomsburg, Mahanoy City, Somerset County and Bradford County. Each migration takes about
eight weeks, from start to finish, and we are on schedule to complete this round by the end of June.
If you would like to be part of one of the early waves, please send an email to lshelly@williamsburgpl.net.
Include the name of the system you're currently using, and the approximate number of records and patrons in your system. If you have an urgent need or reason to come on board early in the project
(your contract with your current vendor is expiring, or you have hardware issues, for example), please let us know that, too. Also, provide
contact information, including a phone number. We won’t make any promises, but we will try to come up with a schedule that works for everyone. We are still working on contracts with our partners, so we
don’t have a fee schedule or conversion timeline yet.
You will be informed of the costs, however before you sign on. If you do not want to come on-board in the near future, that’s fine. Membership will be
ongoing and you can join later.
If you are considering joining with us, now is the time to weed your collection and clean up your patron records. Before you actually migrate to HSLC Evergreen, you will be provided with a more detailed list of
what needs to be done to prepare your database, but for now you might want to start removing unneeded books and examine your patron database for inactive or expired patrons.

Free Windows 7 Curriculum from Microsoft
The My PC Series is a curriculum of workshops designed for adult learners. Perfect for library patrons and staff, these workshops use Windows 7 and Windows Live Essentials to teach basic PC and digital photography skills. Developed by Microsoft, the ten 1-hour workshops and corresponding series of eight 3-hour workshops are based on extensive research about how less
tech-savvy adults want to learn new computer skills.
Hands-on workshops that take a unique, jargon-free, lifestyle approach to teaching a variety of "getting started" topics, including Getting Started with
Windows 7. Participating libraries will have access to free class
materials, including teacher guide, PowerPoint slides,
student handouts, and support materials to help launch and market the My
PC Series. Workshop samples, program overview, and program road maps for
all workshops are available in the My PC Series Evaluation Toolkit.
Finding Health and Wellness @ the Library: A Consumer Health Toolkit for Library Staff is designed to help librarians and library staff build competencies in providing health information services to library users. The online Toolkit links to hundreds of websites, audio and video files, printed resources, and online training materials, with a focus on prevention, wellness, and healthy living.
The Toolkit includes interactive elements to make it easy to navigate. It can also be used as a printed reference document, with additional features to help readers find information quickly.
Free webinar about the Toolkit. This webinar will introduce users to the Toolkit and provide an
orientation to the many multi-dimensional resources it contains,
including core competencies, training resources, collection guidelines,
programming ideas and promotional materials.

Helping Job Seekers: Using Electronic Tools and Federal Resources
Free 90-minute recorded webinar to provide an overview of the public workforce system
and present the electronic tools most helpful to library staff who
assist unemployed workers. Attendees will learn how to direct patrons to
the right tools for their needs and to find local Workforce System
partners. The presentation will also include an online tour of the O*NET System, CareerOneStop.org and America's Service Locator and including Occupational Crosswalks, job search/resume preparation and State Job Banks and Labor Market Information.
