Support Services for District Libraries

District Consultant - Barbara McGary

Main duties are counseling, coordinating and stimulating awareness. The following is a brief description of these duties:

  • Counseling of library personnel, trustees, and government officials on library standards of librarianship and evaluation.
  • Coordinating Continuing Education for the District Library Center, District Advisory Council, County System Administrators, and library trustees.
  • Stimulating community awareness of the importance of libraries

Development Consultant - Karen Temple
Provide support for the:

  • Creation of a strategic/ marketing plan outlining the commitment and ability of the local library to meet the unique needs of their community in a fiscally responsible matter.
  • Training in advocacy and board development so library supporters can effectively articulate the library’s needs to local funding bodies.
  • Initiation of strategic contacts with key decision makers and develop the network skills of the Trustees and Librarians so they can build lasting relationships in their communities.

Webmaster/Technology Trainer - Charles Ormsbee
  • Computer workshops for your staff and patrons. Current workshops concern helping staff and patrons utilize their online resources, such as POWER Library, Heritage Quest, Learning Express and more.   Schedule  a workshop by contacting Charles

  • District libraries who would like help with their website can contact Charles for assistance. Services include; maintaining current  information on your website on a regular basis, updating your site, or adding features. The district provides free hosting services for all library web sites in the district at no cost. Charles provides complete training in maintaining and enhancing your web site.

Storyboxes are a wonderful resource for teachers, librarians and home schooling groups. These themed storytimes-in-a-box include six books, two laminated activity sheets and sometimes a puppet or other manipulative. Storyboxes may be booked online up to six months in advance.

Reference Service - Beth Schetroma
Beth offers help with individual reference questions as well as helping libraries develop their reference tools. She coordinates the Ask Here PA service for the district. Contact Beth by phone, email or or through the Ask Here PA link on your web site.

Jeffrey D. Swope
(pictured at left) is the Youth Services Coordinator for the James V. Brown Library and serves in the capacity of Youth Services Consultant for the North Central Library District.
